I close my eyes. I lift my hands. I surrender. I pray. "Ego" stands in my way. I want to find the "self". I paint in order to see. That which I feel exists and I cannot discern.
Varvara Liakounakou
Varvara Liakounakou was born in Athens in 1978. She received her diploma in Fine Arts from the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, Italy.
Her paintings are based on her drawings which begin as doodling, inspired by human nature. To create atmosphere and expression around her abstraction of the figure, the works build upon themselves with layers of oil colors and oil pastels.
Varvara Liakounakou has participated in many exhibitions. Some of them are at Medusa art gallery in Athens, Mulier Mulier gallery in Belgium and Galleria De' Marchi in Italy.
She is co-founder of Athena Standards Residency and Mudhouse Residency
